Many of us dream of having long shiny hair, but don't know how to get it. Most of us don't realise that what we put in our bodies can affect what happens to our hair.

1) Increase your intake of protein. This is what your hair is built of, and if your intake of protein is limited then your body won't give any to your hair. Protein is found in meat, such as red meat or chicken and is also found in eggs. If you are a vegetarian, protein can also be found in lentils and beans.
2) Drink plenty of water. If you are dehydrated, then so is your hair. Dry hair breaks and splits more easily and therefore will not gain length.
3) Use an intensive mask on your hair once a fortnight. This will help repair any damage that's been done to it. If you cannot afford a shop bought mask then make your own.
Beat an egg and put it through your hair, leave for about half an hour and rinse well. Your hair is made up of protein, which egg is high in, so it'll provide the right things to repair your hair.
If your hair is dry and brittle try a hot oil mask using coconut and almond oil, as coconut oil has high penetration and deep conditioning power while almond oil adds extra shine to the weak dry hair.
Try using 2 tbsp warm olive oil, 1 tsp cinnamon powder and 1 tbsp honey, massage in and rinse after 15 minutes.
4) Get your hair trimmed about once every three months. You don't want to go too often seeing as you're trying to grow your hair. However it's important to get the damaged bits cut off otherwise you'll end up with long hair that feels and looks like straw.
5) Massage your scalp with your fingers for about 5 to 10 minutes to stimulate blood flow to there. Increased blood flow will mean an increase in the amount of nutrients being transported there which will increase growth. General exercise will also increase blood flow to your head as it increases blood flow around your whole body. Lavender oil (pure essential oil)can be massaged on the scalp on alternate days as it is said to be very helpful for promoting hair growth.
6) Reduce stress. Stress can lead to hair loss as well as a decrease in the speed in which your hair grows. Stress can have many negative effects on your appearance, such as causing you to break out and causing wrinkles.
7) Eight hours of sleep is essential. Sleep is the main time which your body spends on growth and repair. If you don't get enough sleep then your body won't have enough time to concentrate on hair growth.
8) Prefer natural products. Try and avoid products which are high in chemicals and things like silicone. Go for more natural products, or silicone free shampoos/conditioners. Steer clear of heavy products which will make you wash your hair more often.
9) Don't wash your hair every day. Washing your hair too often strips away the natural oils in your hair which are essential for keeping your hair strong and healthy. By shampooing your hair as little as possible your hair will become thicker, healthier and less brittle. At first it may be a difficult change to make as your hair gets greasy very quickly if you have been washing it every day, but eventually it regulates to your new routine and you'll be able to go much longer without washing it.
10) When using straighteners or curling irons it's important to use a heat protector first to minimize the damage caused. It is best however to try and find hairstyles that you like which don't require the use of heat. Using too many styling tools cause your hair to dry out and become damaged which will make the hair break and grow less quickly.
